My name is Phil Stark, and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist. I focus mainly on providing therapy for men and couples. I see clients in person in Los Angeles, CA, and all over California and Florida via telehealth.
I now appreciate how much I enjoy connecting with people and helping them feel seen, understood, and supported, but being a therapist was not my first calling. At first, my connection with others came through my writing and storytelling.
In a previous career, I spent many years as a screenwriter and producer, with credits on projects like South Park, That ‘70s Show, and Dude, Where’s My Car?. I loved writing and I did my job with passion and dedication. However, the entertainment industry can be tough, and eventually my career was no longer heading in the right direction for me.
This was a dilemma that I explored in my own personal therapy. Therapy offered me the space I needed to analyze my path, my passions, and, most importantly, my potential. I discovered the answers to these questions – Who am I without my writing? Am I still valuable? Am I still able to excel professionally?
Therapy helped me reassess my skills and potential and guided me towards a new and exciting career. After many years in the entertainment industry, I learned that I still had a lot to give and achieve. So, I got my Masters Degree in Psychology and became a therapist.
I now specialize in working with men to help them navigate relationship issues, career transitions, fatherhood, divorce, and midlife reevaluations. I also see couples seeking help with communication conflict, sex and intimacy, parenting, and family dynamics.
In addition, I work with screenwriters, authors, comedians, producers, and other creative professionals on issues like imposter syndrome, burnout, the artistic process, and the inner critic. I know all about these issues because I’ve been there. As a former screenwriter and producer I understand the ins and outs, the ups and downs, the struggles and challenges of having a career in the entertainment industry.
I also provide work couples therapy, involving non-romantic partnerships like writing teams, co-producers, and business partners.
I believe therapy should be a conversation in a relaxed and safe space. I will help you explore life’s challenges with insight and support. My goal is to provide a non-judgmental environment where you can work to uncover the negative patterns in your life and empower you to create meaningful change. Contact me, and let’s talk!
